Portland Fire Department Responds to Fully Involved Fire Over the Weekend

The fire is currently being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office.

A tractor trailer located in a commercial storage building on Wilcox Hill Road that caught on fire and led to the collapse of the building is being investigated by the Portland Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Portland Fire Department responded to the fire at 8 a.m. on Dec. 27.

According to the department’s Facebook page, upon arrival firefighters found the tractor trailer loaded with 600 bales of hay, fully involved. The building structure failed and collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes and fire suppression efforts lasted until after noon. Heavy equipment was called to the scene to assist with removing the large amount of hay from the remains of the building.

Connecticut State Police F&E is assisting with the investigation. No injuries were reported during the fire.
