Portland Firefighters Rescue Victim After More Than 80 Foot Fall

Portland firefighters quickly performed a high angle rescue.

PORTLAND, CT- An individual fell more than 80 feet into an abandoned quarry Sunday, which required a high angle rescue by the Portland Fire Department.

According to their Facebook page, Portland firefighters responded around 7 p.m. to Quarry Ridge Golf Course. With assistance from the Middletown technical rescue team, they were able to extract the victim from the base of the cliff with a basket lift.

The victim was then transported by helicopter to a local trauma center. Their name and gender have not been identified.

According to the Middletown Fire Department’s Facebook page, the rescue took about three hours.
