Portland Man Charged With DUI After Crash: PD

A man claimed he swerved to avoid hitting a beaver in Middletown, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Police arrested a Portland man after a single car crash on Miners Hill Drive July 15.

Kevin Lord, 26, claimed he saw a beaver run across the roadway and swerved to avoid it, according to police. He went off road and hit a tree.

Lord failed a field sobriety test and was driving under a suspended license. His BAC at headquarters was 0 and police made him take a urine test when they suspected he was under the influence of drugs, according to police.

A large knife was also taken from him during the incident.

He was charged with DUI, weapon in a motor vehicle, operating without insurance and operating under a suspended license.
