Proposed Development of Elmcrest Site Questioned

The former hospital property in Portland has long been considered for combined commercial and residential use.

Portland officials have questions concerning the proposed development of the former Elmcrest Hospital property on the corner of Routes 17A and 66.

The Middletown Press reports that the new developer of the site, Danbury-based Daniel E. Bertram of BRT Organization, is seeking to significantly increase the number of residential units in the planned complex, along with other changes.

The property has long been considered for a combined commercial and residential development, but at about 81 residential units, not the 288 that Bertram is now proposing.
