The East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department announced this week that Santa and his entourage will visit various neighborhoods in the Cobalt section of town on Monday evening, December 19th, beginning at approximately 5:30pm. This additional tour is an extension of the previously scheduled events and will not affect those already planned and published.
As closely as possible (and weather permitting), the Cobalt visit will follow the route approximately as shown: Old Middletown Road, Depot Hill, Gadpouch, Grist Mill, Oakum Dock, Old Depot Hill, Middle Haddam Road, Bates, Keighley Pond, Long Hill, a stop at Middle Haddam Post Office to greet those living west of Route 151 in the historical district, continue down Middle Haddam Road, Hurd Park Road, end at Hurd Park.

The Fire Department emphasized that the Cobalt route addition was the result of intense negotiations between the Department, Santa and the management group representing eight tiny reindeer (“Santa Power Unlimited”). While Santa himself was in immediate agreement, Santa Power Unlimited officials expressed concern about residents’ ability to raise enough “magic” to keep the reindeer flying in order to bring Santa from the North Pole to the town of East Hampton one more night.

Negotiators from the EHVFD pointed out that reindeer “magic” is only generated by the good behaviors, good intentions and good will of those living in a specific area. Using data from historical records, firefighters were able to prove that those residing in the Cobalt / Middle Haddam sections of town have consistently produced and shared an overwhelming abundance of holiday spirit, joy and cheer throughout the years. There would more than enough “magic” to fulfill the requirement.
An agreement was reached, but only after firefighters pledged to insure that ALL residents of East Hampton, especially the children of this great community, be extra, extra good this year, be kind and thoughtful to each other, and be safe in all that we do this holiday season. If we can do that, Santa will be back to visit us next year, too ! ! !
