Lace up those sneakers and get ready to walk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness!

The ninth-annual walk will do more than support NAMI services.

“It’s the one day of the year that we lift the shroud of the stigma of mental illness,” says Kate Mattias, the executive director of NAMI-CT said in . “We want to bring it into the sunlight.”

In fact, the Centers for Disease Control website says that mental illness affects nearly 25 percent of adults in the U.S.

The 5K will be held in Hartford at Bushnell Park on Saturday, May 19 and will begin at 9 a.m.
