Simsbury Earns Shot at State Title

Once the game started there was little suspense or drama, Simsbury saw to that.

Simsbury won the Little League Softball 9/10 Sectional 2 tournament at Seamster Park in East Hampton, defeating Norwich/Preston 10-0 on Friday night.

Up next for Simsbury is Milford International. The two teams will meet in a best 2-out-of-3 series in Darien to determine the state champion. The series starts on Sunday at 1 p.m.

After surviving a scare from Middletown on Thursday, this group of 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars from Simsbury wasted little time against Norwich, scoring seven runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second. The game ended after four innings by virtue of the 10-run rule.

The two teams finished atop the standings with 4-1 records when round-robin play ended on Thursday. Norwich's only defeat came against Simsbury earlier in the week, losing 4-3 in nine innings.

After the game on Friday, there were lots smiles, good sportsmanship, pictures being taken and, of course, hot dogs and other food.

Congratulations to manager Trish Witkin, coaches Amy Stepka and Brian Jennings, and the All-Stars: Teagan, Rebecca, Erin, Valerie, Isabella, Julia, Sydney, Allie, Meghan, Alaina and Brooke.
