State Rejects Ambitious Portland Speed Reduction Plans and Road Repairs

The plans, once heavily considered by the DOT, have been largely scaled back.

PORTLAND, CT- Plans to reduce speed on Main Street from Route 66 to Middlesex Avenue have been rejected by the state, the Middletown Press reported.

The state Department of Transportation had considered reducing the two Marlborough Street northbound lanes to one, as well as a portion of the two southbound lanes to reduce consistent speeding on the road, according to the Middletown Press. The DOT, however, has since largely cancelled these plans.

The exception comes with the southbound portion remaining one lane from the Route 17 intersection to a little south of the Brownstone Intermediate School, the Middletown Press reported. The town will apply for the ability to paint “SLOW SCHOOL ZONE” near the school.
