East Hampton Lake Closed For Swimming
High levels of blue-green algae have shut down swimming at a local lake.

EAST HAMPTON, CT — High levels of blue-green algae have shut down swimming at Lake Pocotopaug, according to NBC. The Chatham Health District tested samples on July 24 and found high levels of the algae.
This algae is not normally dangerous but can pose concerns during a bloom when there is a rapid increase. The combination of warm water temperatures and high concentrations of nutrients lead to this spread, meaning the algae produces toxins poisonous to humans and wildlife, NBCreported.
