Vandals Hit Maple Syrup Lines At Portland Farm
An act of vandalism has wreaked havoc at a Portland farm with a long history in the town.
PORTLAND, CT — A Portland farm with more than 250 years of history is recovering after an act of vandalism. Vandals damaged lines carrying sap for maple syrup, according to FOX 61.
The vandals cut out one-foot sections, making 150 cuts to the tubing. It took 60 hours to make repairs and cost thousands of dollars in materials, according to FOX 61. Portland police are investigating.
"Sadly, our maple syrup lines were recently vandalized," Penfield Farm posted on Facebook. "Someone spent a considerable amount of time and energy in the destruction. Please if anyone knows anything about this or has seen anyone in the woods across from the farm, please PM us with info."

The farm has received "an outpouring of support" from the community since the incident, with people offering to send money and provide expertise in rebuilding the lines.
