Volunteers Needed to place Flags on Veterans Graves
Placing flags on veterans graves for Veterans Day
The Department of Connecticut Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will once again honor the fallen veterans interred at the State of Connecticut Veteran’s Cemetery on Bow Lane, in Middletown, by placing American Flags on gravesites in remembrance for Veterans Day. Beginning at 8 AM on Saturday, November 8, volunteers will spend approximately two hours placing 9000 flags at the cemetery, which is the largest State-operated veteran’s cemetery in Connecticut.
In the past, Boy and Girl Scouts, 4-H Clubs, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, Daughters of the American Revolution and other volunteers have placed upwards of 8000 flags, and this year, with the anticipated increase in the number of flags, more volunteers are needed. Any individual or organization wishing to help with this flag-placing event is asked to arrive at the cemetery at 8AM.
Because of maintenance policies, the flags have to be removed the following weekend, so volunteers are also needed on Saturday, November 15 to remove the flags. Volunteers will be meeting again at the cemetery at 8 AM.
