Big boots to fill

When you try to think of movies that should never be remade, in this case the original is so good how can it be improved on, one that comes to my mind is the 1969 John Wayne classic True Grit. But what do I know. The 2010 version, directed by the Coen brothers, comes out today packing some serious hype, and to be honest, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Watch the trailers here.

Historically significant … or not

The Lincoln Tunnel in New York opens to traffic in 1937. In 1958, the "Chipmunk Song" reaches No. 1 on the charts and in 2001, Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, attempts to blow up American Airlines Flight 63 by igniting explosives hidden in his shoes. Maurice and Robin Gibb, two of the Bee Gees, were born in 1949.
