PORTLAND, CT — East Hampton holds a hearing on accessory dwelling unit rules and may extend its sewer moratorium, while Portland's selectmen get a state development presentation and updates on several major projects.

Here are five things to know about life around East Hampton and Portland this week:

1. East Hampton Hearing On Accessory Dwelling Unit Rules
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Room 107, East Hampton Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton, and on Zoom
What to know: The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on its own proposed amendment to the accessory dwelling unit section of the town's zoning regulations, according to the agenda. Members will also take up a special permit application from Devon Hills for a farm stand at 19 Flanders Road and get an update on the town's Plan of Conservation and Development. Public comments are limited to three minutes. Meeting documents are posted in the town's Document Center.

2. East Hampton WPCA May Extend Sewer Moratorium
When: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6 p.m.
Where: Council Chamber, Room 107, East Hampton Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton, and on Zoom
What to know: The Water Pollution Control Authority's agenda includes discussion and possible action to extend the town's sewer moratorium. Members will also consider confirming the town's willingness to serve a potential water system proposed at 30 Long Crossing, which is in the town's water exclusive service area. They'll hear sewer and water operations updates and a report from the joint facilities committee, and review budget status for fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27.

3. Portland Selectmen Hear State Development Pitch, Project Updates
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 7 p.m.
Where: Mary Flood Room, Portland Public Library, 20 Freestone Ave., Portland
What to know: David Kooris of the Connecticut Municipal Development Authority will make a presentation to the Board of Selectmen. The board will also recognize recipients of the Ralph Paley Spirit of Portland Awards: Susan Bransfield, Thomas Bransfield and John Sterry. The agenda lists updates on the efficiency and shared services initiative, the Nordic Spa, Brainerd Place, the river access project, the Air Line Trail, the POCD, the school project, the water/town well and public works projects. The board will also continue discussing charter revision. The agenda lists several board vacancies, including all five seats on the Building Code Board of Appeals and four citation hearing officer posts under the blight ordinance.

4. East Hampton Firehouse Committee Reviews Relocation Costs
When: Monday, Oct. 5, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Police Training Room 117, East Hampton Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton, and on Zoom
What to know: The Firehouse Site & Development Committee will get an update from SP&A on facility relocation costs and consider interim recommendations to the Town Council, according to its agenda. Members will also discuss drafting the committee's report and next steps. The meeting ends with public remarks.

5. Comments Open On East Hampton's Draft Plan Of Conservation And Development
When: Written comments accepted through the end of October
Where: Land Use Office, East Hampton Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton
What to know: A working draft of East Hampton's updated Plan of Conservation and Development, the town's long-range land use plan, is available for public review. Formal written comments will be accepted through the end of October and may be submitted to the Land Use office, according to the town. More discussion with the Planning and Zoning Commission is planned for November, and a formal public hearing is expected in December before the commission's final consideration.
