Agatha (Gay) Esposito Obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Agatha (Gay) C. Esposito, 102, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025. She was born in Newfoundland to Christopher and Marie Coveyduck, and was the eldest of their 7 children. She came to the U.S. at the age of 6 months and lived in New Haven while growing up. She graduated from New Haven Teachers College (SCSU), and married Edward Mitchell in 1944.

She and her family moved to East Haven in 1956. She taught for 25 years in the East Haven public schools. After Edward died, she later married Jack Esposito. They were avid square and round dancers and belonged to several clubs. They traveled widely within the United States, pulling a travel trailer. She was proud to say she had visited every state, some more than once, and she made several trips overseas. When Gay retired, she took up quilting and won many awards at quilt shows. She was a fantastic seamstress, cake decorator, and excelled in many other types of crafts. Gay moved to Mariner's Point at the age of 99, and was well cared for. They sponsored 3 birthday parties for her, inviting family and friends to celebrate with her. Gay enjoyed doing sudoku, jigsaw puzzles and word searches.

Gay is survived by a son, Ronald Mitchell, of East Haven, and a daughter, Jeanne (John) Kennedy, of Marlow, NH; grandsons Kevan (Precious) and Keefe (Stephanie) Kennedy; several great and great-great grandchildren; and a sister Clara, of Florida.
