EAST HAVEN, CT —Already enjoyed by hundreds since November when it opened its doors, the woman-owned smoothie and juice bar called Align, had its ribbon officially cut Monday.

East Haven resident and Align owner Stephanie Maddern was joined by East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, Assistant Director of Administration & Management Michelle Benivegna, Director and Chief Administrative Officer for Economic Development Raymond G. Baldwin Jr., Lorie Maiorano from the Chamber of Commerce and state Rep. Joe Zullo on a frigid but sunny day to make it officially official.

"Stephanie shows great strength and determination by opening a new business during a pandemic," Carfora said.

And plenty of praise.

"Went to align for the very first time today. I got the watermelon boosted energy tea, my dad the mocha iced coffee, and my mom the thin mint iced coffee. It was awesome! The staff were super friendly and kind. We will back to try everything!"

And many near-five star reviews.

High protein, with lower calories and lower sugar, shakes are on the menu. And the list is voluminous from chunky monkey to wedding cake flavors. And "boosted" teas (and coffees) from acai to pomegranate.

"We wish her much success here in East Haven," Carfora said. "I hope everyone gets a moment to stop by Align and welcome this new thriving business to the community."

Zullo agreed: "If you're looking for a healthy smoothie or energizing drink, I highly recommend visiting Align to grab something from their amazing menu."

And Benivegna took to Facebook to share as well.

"A new, woman owned business opening during COVID in our amazing town … woohoo," she wrote, adding the shop offers "a healthy option for our residents."

"Please stop by and check it out," Benivegna wrote. "Their shakes are delicious and already have a large fan base."

Align has a strong social media presence and offers promotions to encourage repeat customers. Which apparently has not been an issue at all. Customers receive $1 off a visit by posting to social media.

Maddern said she's "so grateful for how welcoming this community has been."
