EAST HAVEN, CT —UPDATE: Just after 9:30 a.m., police were called to Breezewood Condos on Coe Avenue for an "unwanted person complaint," East Haven police Capt. David Emermen said.
When cops got there, they met with the victim, who said her "husband had been holding her against her will and had assaulted her and was in possession of a knife," Emerman said.
The incident caused a brief lockdown of Momauguin Elementary School located nearby, he said.
When police went inside the home, they took Yimel Gonzalez, 40, into custody without incident, Ermeman said.
A knife was recovered and seized as evidence, he added.
Gonzalez was charged with first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree strangulation, violation of a protective order first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree assault, second-degree threatening, interfering with an emergency call, and disorderly conduct. Emerman said additional charges are pending.
The addresses are being withheld to protect the domestic violence victim, the police captain noted.
At the time of this report, Gonzalez was being held on a $500,000 bond, Emerman said.
