EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven police opened an investigation after receiving a report from state child welfare officials that a juvenile was the victim of sexual abuse, police said.
After the report from the state Department of Children and Families, East Haven Police's Investigative Services Division learned that the abuse of the juvenile was believed to have occurred around February 2026 at a residence in East Haven.
Police said Thursday that an arrest warrant was secured for 34-year-old Julio Mendez-Acevedo, who turned himself into police custody on Tuesday.
He was charged with three counts of risk of injury to a child, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, and three counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.
Mendez-Acevedo was released after posting a $100,000 bond, police said.
