Submitted by the East Haven Democratic Town Committee:
EAST HAVEN, CT —The East Haven Democratic Town Committee endorsed Karen Martin for State Representative.
The East Haven Senior Center was packed to capacity and buzzing with enthusiasm for change as supporters gathered for the announcement.
Martin brings a warm, authentic voice, unyielding integrity, and an effective track record of leadership built on five years of listening directly to residents as an elected Town Council member. She offers a clear, proactive alternative to the current representation, promising to put the needs of East Haven families ahead of partisan gridlock.
"I am running because East Haven deserves a champion who is motivated by people, not politics," said Martin. "For five years, I have listened to your struggles and concerns. I am ready to claim our seat at the table to secure the resources our town has been missing."
Martin’s platform focuses on three main issues, demonstrating the leadership and effectiveness East Haven needs.
First, she plans to bring fiscal integrity to the budget
process by lowering costs. Her strategy combines cuts to wasteful administrative spending with tax reforms that ensure the wealthy pay their fair share, ultimately easing
the burden on middle-class families.
Additionally, Martin will fight to lower healthcare costs by capping drug prices and expanding preventative care. She stands firmly with frontline staff, drawing a sharp contrast with the current representative who voted against a 2.5% pay increase for essential State workers at places like the State Health Departments, the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and local courts.
Education funding serves as another pillar of her campaign. Martin plans to advocate heavily for local schools, vowing to aggressively fight to reform the state's education funding formulas. This stands in opposition to the current representative, who voted against $1.14 million in funding for East Haven.
"We can do more for East Haven, and I am deeply motivated to do exactly that," Martin concluded. "I will bring an authentic, listening ear to Hartford, and I will use my seat at
the majority table to ensure East Haven is never ignored again."
