EAST HAVEN, CT — Sadly, too many stories from local animal shelters begin the same way. An abandoned pet. Sometimes, the animal has suffered, been abused, or been neglected. This young dog, shelter staff says, isn't letting her abandonment define her. She's happy-go-lucky, albeit hoping for a home and family to cuddle with.

Here's her story from the East Haven Animal Shelter:

Chai's story began with heartbreak. This beautiful young girl was found tied up outside a store on Main Street and left behind. We may never understand how someone could abandon such a sweet dog, but Chai isn't letting her past define her.

At just 1–2 years old, Chai is full of life, love, and energy! She absolutely adores people and greets everyone she meets with a wagging tail and a big smile. Yesterday she visited the vet and was an absolute superstar—she did amazing for her exam and quickly won over the staff with her friendly personality.

Chai is an active girl who would love a family ready for adventures, playtime, and plenty of cuddles. Despite everything she's been through, she remains one of the happiest dogs you'll ever meet.

Because Chai has only recently completed her stray hold, we have not yet tested her with other dogs. Any potential canine siblings will require a meet-and-greet prior to adoption to ensure a good fit for everyone.

Chai has already been let down once. Let's make sure the next chapter of her story is the one she deserves—a loving forever home filled with love, security, and happiness.

If you're interested in meeting Chai or learning more about the adoption process, please contact East Haven Animal Shelter directly at (203) 468-3249.

Please share to help Chai find her forever family.
