Frank B. Hammell, 97, of Groton, CT formerly of New Haven passed away June 6, 2026 in Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. Husband of the late Jean Kennedy Hammell. Beloved father of Thomas F. (Lori) Hammell of Old Saybrook, Martha Clark of Groton and the late Dianne and Frank A. Hammell. Brother of the late Robert Hammell. Also survived by 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Stepbrother of Harry Marino of New Haven and he also leaves his dear friend Ian Teviotdale of Groton.
Frank was born in Branford on June 10, 1928, a son of the late Frank and Virginia Marino Hammell. Prior to his retirement, he worked in Security for the Gilbane Construction Company. He was a WWII Navy veteran.
His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven Thursday morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery in New Haven. Family and friends may call THURSDAY MORNING from 8:30-10:30.
