Fred Vollono 90 of East Haven passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026 at CT Hospice with his wife and family by his side. He was born at home on May 27, 1936 in New Haven to Joseph and Catherine (Carbone) Vollono. Fred is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Jean (Brunt) Vollono and their three children; Gary Vollono (Michele) of Trumbull, Denise Cuscuna (Jeff) of Methuen, Mass., and Glenn Vollono (Elizabeth) of Northford along with six grandchildren he adored; Valerie Vollono, Melanie DeLapp (Eliot), Marisa Cuscuna, Courtney Cuscuna, Abigayle Vollono and Lucas Vollono. Fred is also survived by his sister, Linda Velazquez (Jose) of East Haven and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings; Rae Curcio and Anthony Vollono.
Fred grew up in New Haven and joined the Air Force in 1955. He was stationed at Otis Air Force base.
During this time he married the love of his life Jean in April of 1958. Upon his discharge from the service in 1959, Fred and Jean built their life together purchasing a home and raising their three children.
Formerly a manager in the telecommunications industry, he retired as a technician from Foxwoods Casino in 2001.
Upon his retirement Fred enjoyed traveling with his wife and lifelong friends, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing games on his IPad. Also known by his grandchildren as “the squirrel whisperer” he fed many generations of Clark Ave. squirrels.
Family will receive friends on Friday July 10, 2026 from 9 to 10:30 AM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. His funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with full US Air Force honors and burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405 in memory of Fred Vollono.
