Ronald P. “Ron” Vlake Jr., 73, of North Branford, beloved husband of 53 years to Genevieve Cicarelli Vlake, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family at CT Hospice following a long illness that he faced with remarkable courage and strength. Loving father of Ronald P. (Danielle) Vlake III of New Haven, John Paul Vlake of East Hampton, Jason A. Vlake and Veronica Vlake both of North Branford and the late Eva Marie Vlake. Deeply adoring grandfather of John Paul Jr., Joey, Rontom, Eathan and Lexie Vlake. They brought him immense joy and pride. Brother of Deborah (Eugene) Cewe of Hamden. Brother-in-law of Pauline (Bill) Leary, Mary (Dave) Vitola and Louis (Marylou) Cicarelli. Ron was born in New Haven on November 25, 1952 son of the late Ronald P. and Josephine “Dolly” Perillo Vlake Sr.
Ron lived a life defined by hard work and devotion to his family. For more than 50 years, he was the cherished husband and lifelong companion of Genevieve. Together they built a home grounded in deep love, strength and mutual devotion. A hard worker through and through Ron spent years on the road as a tractor-trailer driver taking pride in every mile driven.
He possessed a lifelong dedication to martial arts, as owner and instructor, mentoring countless students in discipline.
Above all his accomplishments, Ron was a family man. He was the proud and loving father to his five children; and while his heart carried the immense loss of his late daughter, Eva Marie, his family takes comfort knowing they are now reunited. Ron will be remembered for the strength and unwavering love he shared with those closest to him. He was deeply loved beyond words and will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven MONDAY morning, July 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
