From Karen Martin, candidate for State Representative in District 99:
"The recent federal court decision on the FAA review is a significant step, but it is not a final approval for the airport expansion. The process now shifts to state and local oversight, which means the fight to protect our neighborhoods is far from over.
My top priority will always be protecting East Haven's quality of life, our environment, and our local infrastructure. I fully support the Mayor's dedicated efforts to keep this process transparent and to secure the best possible outcome for our community. Moving forward, we must demand absolute transparency and total accountability from airport authorities.
This ruling does not bypass our local control. Major regulatory hurdles still remain with state agencies like CTDEEP, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and our own local Inland Wetlands and Planning & Zoning commissions.
East Haven will have a strong voice in these decisions. Our town boards have independent authority, and their reviews must be thorough and uncompromised. By working together and supporting our town leadership, we will ensure that our community's voice is heard, public safety is prioritized, and our home is protected.
