EAST HAVEN, CT—Update, 8 p.m.:
The New Haven Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and took possession of the items in question. The scene is now safe, and police and fire personnel have cleared the area.
There is no longer any need for the public to avoid the area.

Police and fire departments are currently on scene at 2 Batt Lane after receiving a report of what appear to be old military relics, including a possible grenade and flare, police posted to Facebook.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking the public to avoid the immediate area while the items are evaluated and the scene is made safe," the post reads. "There is no need for alarm. This is a precautionary response, and we will provide additional information if necessary."
