Preventing Hair Dryer Burn Out

Tips on prolonging your hair dryer's life

If you are tired of replacing your electric blow dryer here are some tips that will prolong the life of your hair dryer.

Remember to unplug any electrical device prior to working on it!!!

Most hair dryers have 2 lint screens that prevent anything from being pulled into the heating coil which is what generates the heat to dry your hair.  The problem is that these screens get clogged with lint and cause the hair dryer to oveheat and actually burn out.

You also need to remember that a hair dryer pulls more energy than most small appliances in your home.  A clogged hair dryer can cost you not only the replacement of it but most likely more money in electrical costs.

To prevent hair dryer burn out follow these tips:

1) Unplug appliance

2)Remove the first protective screen from the back of the hair dryer. This is  usually a snap type or twist off.

3)You can place this screen in warm soapy water to soften the lint covering it.

4) The second screen will now be exposed.  Use an old toothbrush or an old  blush brush to clean off the accumulated lint on the second screen. If the lint has hardened onto the screen because of hair spray; moisten a Q-tip and in rotating maner apply it to each square on the screen.  You will find that the lint will wrap around the Q-tip. Make sure that Q-tip is only moist and not dripping any water that may drop into the hair dryer. Wet the Q-tip and squeeze out the  exess water.  Once the Q-tip end is coated use the other end in the same fassion.  It may take a few Q-tips depending on the condition of the dryer.

5) Once you've cleaned the inner screen, scrub out the 1st screen that you had soaking.  Use an old toothbrush to clean the screen. Do not apply too much force since this screen is at times glued to the plastic holder and may come off.

6) Check your cord and make sure it isn't knotted up.  A simple way to uncoil it is to hold the dryer by the plug downward towards the floor and let it spin out until the coils come out.

7) If you are using multiple hair dryers in the same home make sure that they are not on the same plug circuit or it will trip your electric box since the dryers call for too much electricity at the sametime.

Good luck extending the life of your hair dryer!!!
