Columbus Day Parade Traffic Detours Announced

The Columbus Day Parade will be held in East Haven on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The Columbus Day Parade is scheduled for 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 11, 2015 and will last approximately two hours. The parade begins at the intersection of Hemingway Avenue and Short Beach Road.

The parade will travel north on Hemingway Avenue and west onto Main Street. It will end at Circle Lanes Bowling Alley located at 525 Main Street. Residents should expect heavy traffic during the parade as Hemingway Avenue and Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.

“Emergency No Parking” signs will be posted prior to the parade on Main Street and Kimberly Avenue. This will be enforced on the date of the parade until the parade is over.

At approximately 10:00 am, Coe Avenue between Silver Sands Road and Short Beach Road will be closed to traffic while participants are positioned for the parade.

During this time, southbound traffic from Hemingway Avenue will be detoured onto Short Beach Road to southbound on Silver Sands Road and reversed for northbound traffic on Coe Avenue.

Northbound traffic on Coe Avenue will also be detoured south on Silver Sands road to north onto South End Road into New Haven.

Once the parade begins, traffic north on Coe Avenue will be detoured north onto Silver Sands Road and east onto Short Beach Road into Branford as Short Beach Road will be closed to traffic at the intersection of Vista Drive.

During the parade, all traffic south of Main Street and west of Hemingway Avenue will be detoured west on Dodge Avenue into New Haven.

Those attempting to reach Main Street will be detoured north on Burr Street, west on Haines Street, north on Charter Oak Avenue and west onto Main Street toward New Haven. Southbound traffic from High Street will be detoured east on Sanford Street to east on Saltonstall Parkway into Branford. Traffic will also be detoured east onto Messina Drive, north onto Hemingway Avenue to Saltonstall Parkway.

Traffic traveling west on Main Street from Branford will be detoured north onto Hemingway Avenue. Traffic can then turn west onto Messina Drive and north onto High Street or continue on Hemingway Avenue onto Saltonstall Parkway.

Please be mindful of all detour signs as well as “Local Traffic Only” signs. Local Traffic Only signs will be in place on all roads connecting to the parade route for those that need to travel in that area. These roads will be closed at the parade route and traffic WILL NOT be permitted beyond that point.
