EAST HAVEN, CT – A North Branford owner of a tree care company cut down, free of charge, 11 trees Saturday at the home of a 16-year-old East Haven teen that was severely injured in July when a tree snapped and fell on him while he was mowing his lawn.

Matt Ciancola, who owns Ciancola Tree of North Branford, went to Nick Vessichio’s home on Jeffrey Road in East Haven, and took down 11 trees and trimmed a few others.

Ciancola went to the home at the request of Mike Gaudioso, a friend of the Vessichio family who sent up a GoFundMe page for Nick, that has so far raised more than $35,000.

Gaudioso said this about Ciancola.

“I went to school with Matt and haven't seen him in years and when I called him and asked him to take a look and see what he thought he came the next day and told me we wanted to help the family in anyway he could,” said Gaudioso.

It's nice to see a complete stranger show compassion and decency in such a tough time for the Vessichio family,” Gaudiso added.
