Do Not Fall For Lottery Scam In East Haven, Police Warn

The scam is being distributed in the form of a letter in the mail from someone claiming to be with "Global Link Lottery Inc."

EAST HAVEN, CT — Police are warning the East Haven community not to fall for a lottery scam targeting residents, adding that those who do will be responsible for any lost funds.

The scam is being distributed in the form of a letter in the mail from someone claiming to be with "Global Link Lottery Inc," East Haven police said Tuesday.

"The letter reads, in short, that you are one of the winners of a $500,000.00 prize and that the enclosed check is for taxes and other fees attached to your winnings," according to police.

The letter then instructs you to call the phone number in the letter to claim the rest of your winnings, police said.

"Make no mistake about this ... It is a SCAM," according to police. "If you did not enter a sweepstakes and did not buy any type of lottery ticket, you did not win a lottery."

Police noted that the check initially appears to be from a legit bank, but is fraudulent.

"If you cash it, you will be responsible for the lost funds," police wrote. "Please do not fall for this ... As always, stay safe and please report suspicious behavior in any form."
