East Haven Farmers Market Expanding With Pop-Up Tables, Music

The mayor's office is now running the market, set to open in June. The goal is to bring more folks to the Town Green, and farmers, too.

EAST HAVEN, CT —Looking forward to a summer where folks can enjoy the Town Green, the farmers market, now being run by the office of Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, will be expanded and it's hoped, will draw more people to the Green and the gazebo.

East Haven assistant director of administration Michelle Benivegna said attractions will be added to the expanded market to "bring people to the Green on Sunday mornings," like music in the gazebo. And the market will offer “pop-up” tables for vendors who are just starting out or do not have a large enough inventory to commit to the whole season, she said.

And, more payment forms will be accepted including from the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, WIC and SNAP.

"The goal is to encourage residents to utilize this market as a resource for health and affordable food options while supporting our local farmers," she said.

The farmers market is set to start at the end of June and will coincide with the near-completion of Carfora's Town Green Beautification Project.

"The vision for this project is to make the town green more inviting to our residents and visitors to enjoy and once again make it a central location for town events and activities as town greens historically are," Benivegna said.
