East Haven Lifeguards Honored for Saving a Shelton Man

At one time the swimmer went under the water, officials said.

Two East Haven lifeguards made a life-saving rescue just after 12.30 p.m. on August 31 at the East Haven Town Beach.

Steven Golembieski and Louis Pane Jr. rescued a beachgoer from Shelton. The young man was in waters above his head and due to the strong current, was unable to swim back in and actually went under at one point.

The beach supervisor called 9-1-1 which resulted in response from the Police Department, Fire EMT and AMR Ambulance. Fortunately medical attention was not necessary, East Haven officials said.
