East Haven Man Recovering After Report Of Drowning In Old Lyme

The 34-year-old was initially reported to have drowned but State Police issued a correction and say the man is alive.

OLD LYME, CT — State Police issued an update and correction Tuesday afternoon saying that John Theriault, 34, of East Haven did not drown Monday as was initially reported. State Police say at 5:56 p.m. Monday, the Old Lyme Police Department responded to the report of a drowning victim in the location of Soundview Beach.

"Upon the arrival of Officers, the victim who was later identified as John Theriault (D.O.B: 04-27-1985) of East Haven was located alert and conscious and was later transported to Hartford Hospital via Lifestar. Contrary to initial reports, John Theriault is alive and recovering from his injuries," State Police say.

Fox 61 adds that Theriault is listed in critical condition at Hartford Hospital.

OLD LYME, CT — An East Haven man is recovering Monday after being pulled from the waters of Soundview Beach in Old Lyme, according to Connecticut State Police.

The man, identified as 34-year-old John Theriault, had been airlifted to Hartford Hospital following the incident, which occurred just before 6 p.m.

The initial state police release said the victim had been a juvenile, but that report was later corrected by Old Lyme police, writes WFSB-TV.
