East Haven Man Who Burned Down His House, Shot His Dog Sentenced: Report

But because the man has been incarcerated since his arrest it's likely he'll soon be out of prison.

EAST HAVEN, CT — James Carangelo received a six year prison sentence after he burned down his house and shot his dog five years ago, the New Haven Register reports.

Carangelo, 49, shot his dog, which survived to prevent it from burning in the fire, the Register reports. A cat did die in the fire.

Carengelo, who has been incarcerated since January 2011 will be eligible for parole next year, the Register reports.

He had no major criminal history prior to this 2011 incident. The prosecution contends that Carangelo set the blaze believing his wife was having an affair, the Register reports.

Two East Haven firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze. While incarcerated Carangelo has been disciplined seven times, the Register reports.

When he is released next year, Carangelo will live with his parents.
