East Haven Mayor Maturo - No guilt admitted-but will pay anyway?

MAYOR JOE MUST GO!

A settlement is just like an Alfred Plea - *** Please Note *** - Pleading guilty under the Alfred doctrine because it’s not admitting guilt. It is not a conviction.

Here we are just days away from the biggest trial ever conducted on a sitting Mayor in East Haven. The last depositions were completed and now we are ready for the show. Carbone v Maturo. We have heard all along when all the evidence is presented that Mayor Joseph Maturo will be found to be innocent of the civil complaint of sexual harassment. Well my fellow taxpayers get ready because you’re about to pay big time. Just two days ago, John Conway, Attorney for Defendant Joseph Maturo filed a case flow request with the Superior Court to ask for a settlement! This would mean several things. First, the case would never come before the public. Maturo would not have to face his accuser. Maturo would remain Mayor and lastly you the East Haven Taxpayer would be paying Ms. Carbone for the misdeeds and antics of Joe Maturo.

In criminal cases in order to avoid saying you are guilty of the crimes committed a defendant is permitted to enter an Alfred doctrine plea where they don’t admit they are guilty but there is overwhelming evidence to prove their guilt. In civil matters when the evidence is stacked against the defendant an often used option is settlement. The matter is resolved between the parties and usually a monetary consideration is agreed too. Regardless in this case Maturo blinked and now has shown that without a doubt he did something that would determine this case not to go in his favor.
