East Haven Narrowing Options for Former High School Building
Another public meeting is scheduled this week concerning the 200 Tyler Street building.

A Blue Ribbon Commission continues to discuss the future use of the old East Haven High School building at 200 Tyler Street.
Currently, the commission is considering two options for the property, according to the New Haven Register.
1. Senior housing including, studio and 1 and 2 bedroom units for people 55 and older. It would not include Section 8 housing. There is a strong demand for senior housing in town, officials said. Town officials would want the pool and gym renovated so the public could use it.

2. School officials say they have no interest in the building for a school site.
3. If the town were to use the building for municipal uses it could cost $65 million to renovate and maintain, the Register reports, which could lead to a domino effect and other municipal buildings closing and having to be sold off.

The committee will meet again 7 p.m. Jan. 7 in the DeMaio Room at the Hagaman Library. Additional meetings are planned and nothing has yet been decided.
