East Haven Officials Allegedly Go Back on Reimbursement Promise, Lawsuit Claims

The town has refused to reimburse a resident for repairs to his sidewalk.

Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. told a resident he would not be reimbursed for repair work to his sidewalk and driveway after he was previously informed otherwise, the New Haven Register reports.

Ken Treusch, a Richmond Street resident, hired a town-approved contractor last summer to complete the work, which cost $1,480.

Treusch asked the town to repair the sidewalk in front of his home, at which time the town said they would not pay for the repairs. According to the paper, the contractor Treusch hired found that the roots of a tree located in the town’s right-of-way caused the damage to the sidewalk.

Town Engineer Kevin White assured Treusch he would be reimbursed for the repairs, the paper reports.

Treusch waited for his reimbursement in the Fall of 2013 but never received it. According to the paper, the Mayor denied the reimbursement since Treusch did not file for it within six months. Additionally, due to a spending freeze instituted by Maturo in December, Treusch was advised by White to ask for the money in August after the end of the fiscal year.

According to the paper, Treusch will be taking the town to small claims court.
