EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven police arrested a New Haven man in connection with an April incident where a stolen gun was thrown behind a house on Harrington Avenue after a car stop.

In the April car stop on Main Street, the driver took off before allegedly discarding a stolen firearm, according to Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.

While on routine patrol, officer Stephen Marsico stopped a Lexus GS 300 after "observing an equipment violation" conducted a motor vehicle stop near Boston Avenue. The driver, Tyreek London, 24, initially gave the officer his identification and agreed to get out of the car to speak with police officers when requested to, Murgo said.

The gun, a loaded black .45 caliber Glock turned out to have been stolen in Hamden in July 2021, according to Murgo. And a search of the car London was driving led to the discovery of .45 caliber ammunition, which were a match of the bullets found in the stolen firearm, police said.

After a lengthy investigation, Marsico submitted an arrest warrant affidavit for London, which was issued in July.

London was arrested Aug. 25 by East Haven police in New Haven without incident, Murgo said. He was charged with theft of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, and possession of cannabis with intent to sell, police said.

London was held on a $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 7.
