East Haven Police Officer Who Assisted Federal Probe Sues Town

The officer is battling cancer and is facing a hearing over his job future this week.

EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Police Office Vincent Ferrara, who is battling cancer, has filed a federal lawsuit against the town claiming he has been purposely targeted with retaliatory behavior because he cooperated with federal investigators investigation into criminal activities in the Police Department back in 2012, the Connecticut Post reports.

The lawsuit alleges that East Haven officials led by Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. are out to get him because he assisted the federal investigation into the Police Department.

The Connecticut Post details several incidents in which Ferrara alleges that he was targeted and harassed while on the job including suspensions and disciplinary actions taken against him.

A hearing concerning Ferrara's job future will be held this week. A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay his medical expenses. According to the GoFundMe "Officer Vincent Ferrara of the East Haven (CT) Police Department needs your help. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2017. This type of brain cancer is aggressive and most often terminal.

Officer Ferrara has undergone two surgeries and continues with experimental treatments to fight this disease. Officer Ferrara’s pay has been stopped and he is now responsible to pay his insurance premium out of pocket. He is unable to pay the medical bills along with his regular household bills. The impact this has had on him and his family is devastating. Officer Ferrara is a loving husband with 2 children and a new grandchild. Please help our brother in need."
