East Haven Resident Excels At Indoor Track And Field Competition

The local resident competes as part of the Southern Connecticut State University team.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Junior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team placed fourth in the weight throw to claim All-America honors on day one of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

This was the second All-America honor for Coward as an Owl with a toss of 19.99 meters that was also a personal best and a new school record.

In addition, senior Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) continued her solid performances on the big stage by placing fifth in the 400 meters (54.87 seconds), which was tops in her heat and third overall. That qualifies her for the finals.The Owls return to action tomorrow as they continue action at day two of the NCAA Championships.
