East Haven School Board Votes to Consolidate and Close One School
The school board reduced the initial 2016-17 budget request by the schools superintendent by a significant margin.

Recently, East Haven Superintendent of Schools Portia Bonner proposed a $51.2 million spending plan for fiscal 2016-17, which represented an 8.7 percent hike over this year’s budget.
The Board of Education drastically reduced Bonner’s budget and ended up with a $48.7 million budget, which still represents a $1.6 million increase.

The board approved closing D.C. Moore School due to declining enrollment townside at the end of the year saving more than $1 million, the New Haven Register reports.
Additionally, eight teaching positions have been eliminated along with other staff positions, the Register reports.

The school budget isn’t finalized until later this spring. Things could still change until its finalized.
