From a submitted press release:

East Haven Town Clerk Lisa Balter officially announced her candidacy for reelection in this November’s municipal election. She made her announcement in front of a packed room at the East Haven Senior Center Monday evening, where the Democratic Town Committee was holding their monthly meeting. Balter’s announcement comes after filing the necessary paperwork earlier in the day at East Haven Town Hall.

“I am extremely proud of the work we have been able to do in the Clerk’s office over the past year and know there is still much more for us to do to modernize the office,” Balter stated. “Among the ongoing projects I am working on is to continue to update our online records through our Documents Preservation Program; ensure seamless voting as absentee ballot requests continue to rise; and review and maintain the towns municipal documents, calendar, election manuals and Charter provisions.”

“I must admit when I came into the Clerk’s office, I was surprised to find it in such a state of disarray. Unfortunately, a good chunk of my time has been dedicated to cleaning up our records, putting better systems and procedures into place, and making sure all records are saved and accessible to the community. A big reason I’m running again is because, despite our progress, we still have much more work ahead,” Balter stated.

Balter was first elected Town Clerk in November 2021 after running as a member of Mayor Joe Carfora’s election slate. “It’s hard to believe a year has already passed. I am excited to be running again with Mayor Carfora and the Democratic team and look forward to continuing to serve the people of East Haven,” she said. “I share the mayor’s vision and plan for East Haven and look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Balter also announced she will be seeking the Democratic Party’s endorsement when they hold their convention this summer. “I have spoken to a great number of my colleagues and party activists, and I am confident I have their support again to represent the Democratic Party as their nominee for Town Clerk,” Balter said. “I look forward to continuing my work with the mayor, the town council, and all the employees in Town Hall. Serving our town and the people who live here has been the greatest honor.”
