East Haven Unveils its Winter Parking Ordinances

As wintry precipitin is forecast late tonight, town officials share the winter parking ordinances and some new provisions.

EAST HAVEN WINTER PARKING ORDINANCES

As it appears that winter weather will now begin to affect our area, East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. would like to remind residents that the newly revised Winter/Snow Parking Ordinances that were passed prior to last winter, will once again be in effect. “The new ordinances are intended to simplify the guidelines to enable all citizens to better understand and adhere to them, which will not only greatly enhance our Public Services Departments ability to clear the streets during snow events, but also enable our Police Department to enforce them equitably, so we can achieve the desired results. I ask all residents and businesses to become familiar with the new, much less complex ordinances, as we are now entering the peak season for winter weather events.”, Maturo stated.

The following are the important provisions of the new ordinances:

Otherwise, vehicles shall be permitted to park only on the EVEN numbered sides of streets, unless otherwise posted.

THE PARKING BAN SHALL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL
36 HOURS AFTER THE SNOW EVENT HAS ENDED

During especially large and/or dangerous events, in the event the Mayor declares a “SNOW EMERGENCY”, this ban can be extended and the Mayor or Chief of Police can order the removal of all vehicles from any or all streets within the town to permit snow removal. This will enable the Public Services Department to properly and efficiently clear each street.

SIDEWALKS
All residents and businesses must clear sidewalks of snow within 24 hours following the end of the storm.
