Edward Cyril Ahern Obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Edward Cyril Ahern, 66, of East Haven died peacefully on October 14, 2026, at Yale New Haven’s Smilow Cancer Hospital. Edward spent his brief time at Smilow with family and friends, and his sister was at his side when he died. He was born November 25, 1959, in New Haven to Edward and Catherine “Kay” (Ryan) Ahern. Edward is survived by and missed by his siblings; Carolyn Ahern (widow of Chick Ierardi) of Bantam CT, Steven Ahern of East Haven, Joseph Ahern (Geri Yeske) of Westbrook and brother/friend, Karl Sagal of New Hampshire, along with his nephew, Drew Sagal, his niece, Kaili Sagal, and many cousins and friends, especially his friends at Vic’s Cafe.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law; Chick and cousins; Ellen Ahern-Lunn and Edward Welch Jr.

Edward proudly served in the Army Corp of Engineers for many years and worked in construction until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 89 and the Freemasons Trumbull Lodge #22 where he had served as a Worshipful Master.

Edward was a devoted fan of the NY Giants, the NY Mets and his West Point Black Knights – go ARMY. Edward was an avid crossword puzzler, and enjoyed reading, especially history, sci-fi and mysteries. He was a big fan of Monty Python, Dr. Who, Masterpiece Theater and the movie Love Actually (yes, actually). Edward loved Kay’s meatloaf, anything chocolate, especially Steven’s chocolate chip cookies, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Cadbury chocolate and chocolate cake. Edward could “inhale” a chocolate cake in record time.

Edward was kind, quirky and funny – a true individual who would speak Latin to anyone who would listen.

One of the few things his siblings all agree on is that Edward was by far the best of us. Edward always gave more than he ever took or asked for. Edward was a truly good man, a kind soul and Edward left this world a better place by just being Edward.

Edward was loved a lot and is missed terribly. Edward will be in our hearts always.

Requiescat in pace, frater noster dilectus.

Family will receive friends on Saturday November 7, 2026, from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project in Edward’s honor.
