Elderly Housing Plan Nixed by East Haven Zoning Commission

The East Haven Planning and Zoning Commission has halted a controversial age-restricted development planned for Sperry Lane by a 3-2 vote.

EAST HAVEN — The East Haven Planning and Zoning Board shot down two proposed zoning changes that would have paved the way for elderly housing on Sperry Lane, the New Haven Register reports. The proposal called for 415 age-restricted rental units within five buildings that would be built on the site of a former Girl Scout campsite, just off Route 80.

The New Haven Register reported that East Haven Police Chief Ed Lennon has cited traffic issues as a major cause for concern should the zoning changes be approved.

The 3-2 decision followed 90 minutes of debate at a public meeting on March 20. The developer has an option to re-apply.
