'Important To Count Everyone:' Carfora Sets Census 2020 Kick-Off
Lieutenant governor, congresswoman, state legislators to attend event. Carfora says 'census counts have a huge impact on our community.'
EAST HAVEN, CT — Given the importance of counting all, Mayor Joseph Carfora announced a Census 2020 Kick-Off, Monday at 10 a.m. at Hagaman Library.
A release from Carfora's office explained that the event, which includes a panel discussion featuring Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, is an opportunity for citizens to learn more "about the effects of the Census and why it’s so important to count everyone."
"Census counts have a huge impact on our community," the statement from Carfora reads. "The 2020 Census data will be used to determine how more than $675 billion from more than 100 government programs are distributed to states and localities, including communities like ours. The data influence decisions made about which roads are fixed, where schools are built and businesses opened, what medical services are offered, and more."
