Judge Decides Maturo's Firefighter Pension Issue

Maturo has sought to collect his firefighter pension while serving as the town's mayor.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. cannot collect his $40,000 pension he earned as a member of the Fire Depaartment while also serving as the town’s mayor, according to a recent court ruling.

Maturo, who earns $85,000 annually as mayor, told the East Haven Courier he’s disappointed with the ruling and may appeal to a higher court.

He said collecting the pension while serving as a mayor isn’t double dipping, and that his position as mayor is akin to a new career completely separate from his past job as a firefighter, Jack Kramer reports for the Courier.
