Lack Of Rain Causing Drought, Splash Pad Hours Cut To Conserve Water

But not by a lot, so fear not. Kids can still get their splash on just from noon to 6 p.m. for the time being as CT faces a Stage 2 drought.

The splash pad will still be open, but from noon to 6 p.m., in an effort to conserve water.

EAST HAVEN, CT —Due to an extended dry spell, Connecticut is experiencing drought conditions. The town was told that while it faces “moderate drought” circumstances, water conservation can help.

The East Shore District Health Department contacted Assistant Director of Administration and Management Michelle Benivegna to recommend shorten hours.

"We feel the splash pad offers a way for residents to stay cool in the heat; but would suggest shortening the time open at the end of the day to help conserve water during this time," wrote East Shore health deputy director Amy Scholz.

Town Recreation Director Liz Franco said that given the splash pad is a popular summer activity, "it will not be closed."

However, until further notice, she said its hours will be shortened slightly. Franco said the town would "continue to monitor this situation" with the health department.
