Let's Go! East Haven Recreation Debuts Walkers Group, Zumba Classes, Shaolin Kempo Karate
From morning walkers to high-energy dance fitness to confidence-building karate, there's a new program for everyone.
EAST HAVEN, CT — The East Haven Recreation Department debuted three new programs to help get folks moving.
East Haven Walkers, a new group promoting health, fitness, and socialization, begins Saturday, May 9, at 8:30 a.m. at the JMMS recreation complex. The Saturday morning walks are at once energetic and stress-free as the walker decides the distance. Register to receive email updates and weather cancellations. Walks instructed by Lisa Murray.
Zumba. Held Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings, it's a high-energy movement class that allows participants to enjoy a workout rain or shine, burn calories, and improve fitness all while having fun. The space is equipped with energizing music and plenty of room for participants to move fully and be immersed in the rhythm. Wednesday sessions are from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. from April 22 to May 27 at the Hayes School all-purpose room. The Thursday session is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hayes School recreation center.

Shaolin Kempo Karate classes are held Saturday mornings for ages 12 through adults. Shaolin Kempo Karate builds confidence and discipline in physical fitness in a fun, structured environment. The class teaches the foundational techniques in the style of Shaolin Kempe Karate, beginning with the training stances and footwork of karate, building a strong foundation for the more complex techniques of Kempo and Kung Fu while emphasizing potential character traits like respect, focus, and self-control. It's perfect for beginners. The course prepares students for skill advancement while encouraging personal development. Session one is April 25 to June 6 for ages 5 to 11 from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Hayes School recreation center. The next session in the same location follows the first and is for ages 12 to adult, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
