Lisa Balter Resigns Post As East Haven Town Clerk, Effective March 22

A Democrat first elected in 2021, Balter said she's leaving for an appointed town clerk post. She doesn't name the town.

EAST HAVEN, CT—Town Clerk Lisa Balter announced on Facebook Thursday evening that she's resigning her post effective March 22.

First elected in 2021, Democrat Balter said she's accepted an appointed town clerk post. She does not identify the town. In East Haven, the role of town clerk is an elected one; the person must run for office every two years. Balter ran as Mayor Joseph A. Carfora's running mate.

After much thought and reflection, I want to share with the residents of East Haven that I will be resigning from my position as Town Clerk effective March 22, 2026, to accept an appointed position as Town Clerk.

Serving our town has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am incredibly proud of the work accomplished in the Town Clerk’s Office and grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of East Haven with integrity, dedication, and transparency.

I want to sincerely thank Mayor Joseph A. Carfora for choosing me as his running mate and giving me the opportunity to run for and serve as your Town Clerk.

I will be forever grateful for that trust and opportunity. It has also been an honor to work alongside the Town Council and our dedicated town employees who work every day for our community.

Most importantly, thank you to the residents of East Haven for your support, your trust, and the many kind words you have shared with me over the years. It has truly been a privilege to serve you.

Mayor Joseph A. Carfora said that Balter "served the Town of East Haven with dedication and professionalism" and thanked her for her efforts on behalf of residents.

"While we are sorry to see her leave, I certainly understand the appeal of a position that offers the stability of an appointed role," Carfora said. "We wish Lisa nothing but the best in this next chapter of her career and thank her for her service to our community."
