LISTEN: East Haven Mayoral Candidate Calls 911 Over Missing Political Signs

In the call, Michael Speer, asks for an officer to respond "immediately." He was interviewed by WPLR about the 911 call.

East Haven Democratic Mayoral Candidate Michael Speer called 911 recently to report that nine political lawn signs were stolen from his Elm Street property, police confirmed.

A Youtube video of the 911 call was verified by East Haven police, and police said the voice on the call is in fact Speer’s.

In a separate Youtube video from the Chaz and AJ WPLR radio show, they aired Speer’s 911 call and interviewed him about it. (See the video below).

Speer in the 911 call says he is a “candidate for mayor” and he wants a police officer to come to his house “immediately” after nine political lawn signs were stolen from his private residence.

In the radio segment, Speer, 29, says on the 911 call he made it clear it was “not an emergency,” and he repeatedly said he expected the 911 dispatcher to transfer his call to a non-emergency line.

In the six-minute interview, Speer is repeatedly challenged by the radio hosts as to whether it was a mistake to call 911 for stolen political signs. Speer said he didn’t have the Police Department’s routine number in his cell phone.

Speer also said the neighborhood has been on heightened alert because of numerous recent car break-ins.

In an email to East Haven Patch, Police spokesman Lt. David Emerman said, “Yes, that is the call (minus the part where it appears he provides his phone number that was scrambled). I have had other requests for the call and did release it as requested in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act.

One of our officers did respond and wrote an incident report for a reported larceny, although it appears that there are no suspects at this time,” added Emerman.
