Local Business Owner Looks to Run For East Haven Mayor
Sal Maltese, said his campaign would focus on giving East Haven a leader that all residents can be proud of.

Veteran East Haven Finance Committee Member Sal Maltese established an exploratory committee today for a run in this year’s Mayoral Election.
Formally establishing the committee allows Mr. Maltese the ability to raise money and put together a campaign team and get his message out to the voters.
“I have decided to launch an Exploratory Committee to examine whether I should run for Mayor of East Haven in 2015. I made this decision after listening to many knowledgeable people in town who have encouraged me to run for Mayor,” Maltese said in a press release. “I look forward to listening and talking with more people in the coming months as I decide whether or not to run. I am a business person who is informed and I know how to utilize tax dollars. I will create cost efficiencies in the town budget to stretch the use of our assets.”

While it does not mean that he is officially a mayoral candidate, he has said that it is likely that he will jump into the race to replace fellow Republican Mayor Joe Maturo. Maltese has said that his campaign would focus on cleaning up the towns image and giving East Haven a leader that all residents can be proud of.
“We need to improve East Havens infrastructure while maintaining a stable tax rate. I want East Haven to be a destination town by making East Haven a livable community with safe streets, great schools, spectacular beachfront and a revitalized town center, upgrade the conditions of our roads, support open space and encourage economic development,” Maltese said in the press release. “This all depends on restoring integrity to our elected government, with ethical leadership focused on one thing: Creating a great town living up to its potential. “

In response to Maltese’s decision to form an exploratory committee, Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr.made the following comment to East Haven Patch.
“Especially as we approach budget season, my team and I remain focused on continuing to effectively and efficiently manage the Town. In just the next two weeks, I will be developing initial budget projections and addressing key capital and infrastructure matters in both Public Works and the Police Department. While the campaign season will afford my team and I plenty of opportunities to discuss the tremendous strides our community has made in the last four years, until such time as I announce my intentions of running, my focus will remain exclusively on keeping our Town moving forward on the right track.” Maturo said.
Maltese is a resident of East Haven. Sal and his wife of 49 years, Joan, have raised their four daughters all of whom graduated from East Haven Schools.
